A Kansas City Union Station Proposal

When I rewind a few days… I can’t believe it. On Saturday October 8, 2016, I had the honor of capturing a surprise proposal at Union Station Kansas City.

Back in July, while sitting in my apartment, I overheard a conversation my boyfriend was having with his brother, Jeff. Jeff was telling Justin all about his weekend which lead to an in-depth narrative of what he said to his long-time girlfriend’s father when he told him that he’d like his permission for her hand in marriage. Throughout the entire conversation, I was uncontrollably sobbing on my couch. I’m a HUGE romantic and Jeff’s love for Michaela is inarguable. This proposal was going to be near and dear to my heart, I just knew it and I knew very little of the role I would play at this point. It wasn’t even until last week that he asked me to photograph the whole thing. I honestly could not have been more honored in that moment.

Jeff had this planned out perfectly. Jeff had Michaela under the impression SHE planned a girls night with her girl friends. There was absolutely no way she’d predict that the happiest day of her life thus far was going to occur instead (not that a girls night wouldn’t have topped it, but come on guys!)

Around 6:45, right on time was when Michaela was informed that Girls Night was NOT happening and she was kicked out of a car full of her closest girlfriends in front of Union Station, beside herself and confused.

Then she looks up.

Jeff is standing in front of the gorgeous Bloch Fountain with a smirk on his face as he greets her with a simple and playful few short sentences. “Hi.” “Girls Night is not happening.” and “No more bluffing.” He then got down on one knee and she was visibly beside herself. It’s the day she’s been waiting for.
(Below in the images, you can see some of the real, unposed moments.)

After a romantic dinner at Pierpont’s, Michaela uncovered her one and only reservation about the day. She couldn’t help but feel bummed that her brother wasn’t home to be a part of it. Ross has been gone for months in Wyoming for work and wasn’t going to be back yet. But of course, surprise. 😉 Michaela was given yet another shocking and speechless moment. Jeff leads her to her best friend’s home to be greeted by many of her closest friends, family, as well as Jeff’s. As she rounded the corner, there stood her little brother Ross. The emotions that she went through that day, she was finally pushed over the edge with happiness. Not only was she engaged to marry the man of her dreams but she was able to celebrate it with everyone. It was an undoubtedly perfect evening.

Perfect.

Congratulations Jeff + Michaela! You both deserve the world and I can’t wait to watch you grow even more, with each and every step to come.
